HICKORY, N.C. — Daily conversations between two Lenoir-Rhyne University employees about their elderly mothers planted the seed for what has become a vibrant — and growing — program that offers information, resources and support for adult children who are caregivers and/or support persons for aging parents.
“We called them our morning reports,” says Frances S. Hall, speaking of the conversations she and Joyce Pressley used to have about their moms. “After a while, we realized that lots of other Lenoir-Rhyne staff and faculty had aging parents and wanted help, so a group of us started meeting once a month for lunch and sharing. That was nice, but we also needed to get some answers, so we started bringing in speakers. At the same time, I was hearing that people in the community wanted to come, too, but couldn’t make a noontime meeting.”
