As we age, many people experience diminished vision and/or hearing. The limitations can affect every aspect of life, and caring for a parent or other loved one who has vision and/or hearing losses can be challenging.
The March ACAP-Hickory program brings Paige Berry, National Coordinator for Senior Adult Services for the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults to Hickory. Ms. Berry has over 44 years experience in the fields of deafness, deafblindness and interpreting and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Her most requested training is the Confident Living Program for senior adults that provides high quality information on coping with vision and hearing loss.
Attendees of the March ACAP-Hickory program will gain information about:
- How loss of both vision and hearing affects an individual’s day to day functioning and quality of life.
- Communication and coping strategies caregivers can use to enable their loved one to live
confidently in their “golden years.” - Resources and technology available to seniors living with vision and hearing loss.
