Taking Control of Medicines: Strategies for Effectively Managing Medications

This program will help adult-children understand that hospitalizations/re-hospitalizations, exacerbation of medical conditions, or declining medical conditions could be related to missed medications, medication errors, and medication non-compliance, most of which can be prevented. Our speaker will offer specific and practical tips that can be implemented by adult-children to keep their parents safely in the home and in the community.

PRESENTER: Katie Evans, PharmD, BCOP

Katie earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at Chapel Hill. Katie worked at the Duke Cancer Center and provided a number of services to adult cancer patients and bone marrow transplant patients. As an Oncology Pharmacist with Duke, Katie provided patient education, rounded with the physician team, precepted students and oncology residents, provided in-service education opportunities to nursing and pharmacy staff, and worked in the oncology infusion pharmacy and ABMT pharmacy. After 10 years at Duke, Katie’s family moved to Wilmington to be closer to family where she was the Director of the Pharmacy Technician program at Cape Fear Community College. She enjoyed teaching future technicians and working with community and hospital pharmacists in this capacity. Katie joined the Zimmer team in January 2019 and has enjoyed getting back into the clinical realm, working with patients and their oncology team. She is now working at Novant Health Cancer Institute.
