Shielding Your Loved Ones from Scams & Fraud

Fraud costs Americans tens of billions of dollars every year, and the losses keep climbing. This program equips participants with the knowledge to recognize and stop scams before they cause harm — both to themselves and to the family members and friends they care about most.<div><br /><div>Drawing on real investigative experience, this session covers:</div><div><br /></div><div><ul><li>How your information is stolen — data breaches, compromised cards, and email spoofing/phishing</li><li>Who scammers target — including why seniors and young adults face the greatest risk</li><li>The fastest-growing scams — grandparent scams, romance scams, phishing/smishing, lottery and sweepstakes fraud, cryptocurrency schemes, IRS impersonation, and fake arrest-warrant calls</li><li>The role of artificial intelligence in making modern scams more convincing and harder to detect</li><li>Financial elder exploitation — how it happens, including misuse of power of attorney and emotional manipulation, and concrete steps to prevent it</li><li>Practical protection strategies — credit freezes, safe payment habits, verifying charities, and knowing when law enforcement would (and wouldn't) contact you</li></ul></div><div><br /></div><div>Participants leave with actionable tips they can use immediately to protect their own finances and help safeguard aging parents, grandparents, and other loved ones from becoming victims.<br /><div><br /></div><div><b>Presenters: Investigators Pedro Munoz and Alaina Kusek of the Cobb County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigations Division – Fraud and Forgery Unit</b></div></div></div>

Our chapter is dedicated to empowering caregivers with the tools, choices, and confidence you need to navigate the often stress-filled journey of caring for aging family members.

Our goal is to foster a vibrant community of caregivers, enabling you to draw strength and inspiration from others who share similar experiences and concerns.

Each month, we host free educational programs and community gatherings specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of caregivers in Cobb and Cherokee Counties. Every meeting starts with a friendly meet-and-greet, followed by sessions filled with practical information and resources designed to support you in your caregiving role.

We invite you to join us for free monthly ACAP programs that address topics common to most caregivers for aging adults.
