Presenters: Susan H. Saylor, MS, Franchise Owner, Home Instead Senior Care; Beth Harris Brandes, MSW, Organizational Consultant; and Cynthia Eades, Catawba County Human Resource Director. Each member of the panel has personal experience working for organizations while caring for their parents.
“Help me, I can’t get up!” This is a frightening phrase for family caregivers to hear when they are on their way to work or are already at work. Juggling work and caregiving presents unique challenges especially for women who assume 66% of caregiving nationally; although men also provide assistance, female caregivers spend as much as 50% more time providing care than male caregivers.

ACAP-Hickory provides information, resources, support and community for adult-children as we care for our aging parents and for ourselves. ACAP-Hickory meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 5:30-7:00 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church (2780 North Center Street, Hickory). (Please note that the December program is scheduled for the first Tuesday of the month.) While the cost-free monthly educational programs are designed for adult-child caregivers, sessions are open to all who are interested.
