Beyond Canes and Rocker Knives:

Assistive Devices that Help Maintain Safety & Independence

Date / Time:  Tuesday, September 12, 5:30-7:00 pm

Location:        Fellowship Hall, Mt. Olive Lutheran Church (2780 N. Center, Street, Hickory)

Presenter:      Kelly Dant, OT/L, Frye Regional Medical Center

Most of us know about canes, walkers and grab bars that help aging loved ones remain safe and as independent as possible.  But there is a wide range of devices that help retain dignity and independence while reducing the burden of care on the caregiver as a loved one becomes physically more dependent.

This ACAP program is designed to help families and caregivers become familiar with adaptive equipment, from simple to complex.  Kelly Dant, a licensed occupational therapist, will describe adaptive equipment that is available, benefits of the devices and how to obtain the items, as well as the importance of loved ones’ retaining as much independence as possible.  Program attendees will:

  • Learn about adaptive equipment and range of devices ― from simple to complex ― to help maintain a loved one’s ability to remain as independent as possible and reduce burden of care on the caregiver
  • Become familiar with devices that are available in our community, benefits of the various pieces and how you may obtain the items
  • Gain increased awareness of the importance for an individual to maintain independence with basic tasks.

ACAP-Hickory gratefully acknowledges Freedom Step and Bayada Home Health Care as sponsors for the September ACAP program.

Hope you will join us for this important program!
